How do I Choose the Best Complexion Cream?

The best complexion cream is one that best addresses one's complexion issues. There are myriad complexion issues that people deal with including dry skin, patchy skin, blemished skin, and uneven skin tone. For each of these issues, there are probably hundreds of creams and lotions on the market. Before beginning the process of sorting through all of these options, however, specifically identifying one's skin issues is crucial.

For people who are trying to manage dry skin, a hydrating complexion cream is a good choice. Creams made with shea butter, jojoba oil, olive oil, aloe, and Vitamin A are often very good for dry skin. Patchy skin, which is also sometimes called "combination skin," can be treated with a balancing cream that helps to control oil in some areas while hydrating the skin as needed in dry areas. Blemished skin can be treated with a cream that fights pimples and acne. Many skin-care companies that use natural ingredients in their products use tea tree oil in products for blemished skin.

Uneven skin tone can also be addressed with complexion cream. There are some creams that combine both ingredients that balance skin tone and tint to help even the look of the skin tone immediately. Creams and lotions with Vitamin C are often used to help brighten the skin tone and treat uneven tone that may be the result of acne scarring.

Once the right category of complexion cream has been identified, it is time to start sorting through the companies that make that category of cream. Some companies, for example, use all-natural and fresh ingredients in their products. In fact, some such products have to be kept in the refrigerator because they are entirely made out of perishable produce and are not blended with any preservatives or stabilizers. Other companies use all organic ingredients in their products. Others are committed to only selling products that have not been tested on animals.

After finding a company or two that makes the right kind of complexion cream to meet one's needs and to fit ones' price range, it is time to begin testing products. When possible, get travel sizes or testers of products to try out before purchasing an entire bottle of cream. Completing at-home product tests is a great way to find the best cream or a few very good creams for one's complexion.

Most complexion creams on the market appear to be skin lightening creams. I have blemishes on my cheeks due to the sun. I've been looking for a complexion cream to fade them. Every salesperson I've spoken to has directed me towards skin lightening creams. I don't really want to use them though because they usually contain chemicals and I don't want the rest of my face to become lighter.

@burcinc-- Complexion just means the appearance of your skin and includes factors like texture and color.

If your face is not shiny and oily or dry and taut, then you probably have a normal skin type. It's actually very straightforward. If your skin feels dry and taut, you need a dry skin cream. If it's oily, you need a cream formulated for oily skin. It's also possible to have a combination skin type where certain parts of your face are oilier or dryer. You can find combination creams as well.

It's important to use the right face cream suited for your complexion. Otherwise, you may develop problems like acne, wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and so on. Pay more attention to your skin and how it feels throughout the day to determine your complexion. It might also help to try different complexion cream samples to see which one works best for you. Your skin should feel soft and supple after using the right complexion cream. Your pores should not be clogged and your skin tone should be the same everywhere.

I'm not sure about the type of complexion I have. I don't have acne and my skin isn't dry either. Should I jut use cream for normal skin types?
